This is a beautiful heart-shaped plant that is extremely rare. The plant has sub terete petioles where the new leaf blade will emerge with the adaxial side pink and the abaxial side strikingly red. Mature leaflets of Philodendron pastazanum appear slightly layered and the secondary lateral veins are not visible. The adaxial surface of the leaves of this plant feels soft to the touch and looks satin-like but not glossy.
