Hoya is known as the “Wax Plant” because of its waxy leaves and wax-like flowers. Hoya varieties also vary. One of them is Hoya Callistophylla which is famous for its large, veiny leaves and unique flowers. The leaves are oval in appearance with tapered tips. The leaves are also thick and dark green in color with a surface like waxy texture.
The flowers are the main attraction of this plant. Hoya Callistophylla flowers have a star-like shape with varying colors, namely white, cream and red. The fragrance is softly fragrant especially at night. When it blooms, it is very beautiful and stunning. Caring for Hoya Callistophylla is easy to grow.
In our greenhouse, this type of hoya is the one that flowers most often. The flowers also bloom quite often throughout the year. The flowers can bloom for a long time and do not fall off easily. Suitable for those who can’t wait to see the flowers. A must-have in your collection!
Hoya callistophylla can green the corners of your home, here’s how to care for it.
1. Choosing the Right Location
Make sure you place Hoya Callistophylla in an ideal place. They like bright light but avoid direct sunlight. You can place it in a bright room with a little shade. Lack of light can make the hoya not grow optimally, it tends to have weak growth and smaller and paler leaves indicating inadequate lighting.
2. Keep it well-watered, but not too much
Hoya with thicker leaves are relatively easy to grow. They are quite drought-tolerant and do not require much water. So remember to keep them moist. Water regularly, they prefer slightly dry soil. If the leaves turn yellow, the most likely cause is over-watering. It is possible that lack of water is also an indication or can cause the leaves to turn yellow and die, but excess water is the most common. Over time you can be more mindful in watering them.
3. Medium and Fertilizer
Make sure the medium where you plant Hoya Callistophylla has good drainage. A medium that is light and rich in nutrients will make them grow healthily. Choose a medium that can help with drainage and healthy root growth. We recommend using moss. Once the medium is safe for root growth, fertilize as a nutrient yes. Hoya Callistophylla only needs to be fertilized occasionally, for example, fertilize 1-2 times a month.
4. Styling Wise
In terms of styling, Hoya Callistophylla is a vine that can gracefully be trained to climb a trellis, drape it in a hanging basket, or walk along a shelf, so you can customize the way these plants grow to your room or decor. The main goal is to get them to grow well by giving them a supportive space.
